B.O.B. f/ Playboy Tre & Killer Mike – “Say What You Want

Bobby Ray – “Camera

from B.O.B. Vs. Bobby Ray [NODJ] (Mixtape, 2009)

Finally, a mixtape that features both Asher Roth and OJ da Juiceman!

B.O.B. is snapping on here when he wants to. I just wish he never let himself get involved with all these blog boys and I am just imagining if the Asher, Mickey Facts & Charles Hamilton spots were replaced with Bohagon Young Dro and Homebwoi but whatever. Also he needs to stop singing. The “Bobby Ray” half of the tape is mostly unacceptable sub “Hey Ya” rap.

No DJ mixtape rips are the best thing to happen to hip hop since Roger Linn but feel free to download the mixed version if you are into sadomasochism. Tracklisting after the jump. (more…)

Treboy Play, Then & Now

YBM (Playboy Tre) f/ Mark Twayne – “What’s Goin’ On

from So So Def Bass All Stars Vol. 3 (So So Def, 1998)

DX just put up a Playboy Tre profile I wrote for them. If you read this blog with any regularity then you’ve already downloaded Liquor Store Mascot, so lets get a little deeper with this early Tre contribution to the third So So Def Bass compilation. Released under the moniker Young Black Male and featuring Mark Twayne from the Youngbloodz, “What’s Goin’ On” is a thoughtful, dare I say conscious, bass record that would make Kilo proud.

Born Wit It – “That Loud

from Substance Abuse (Mixtape, 2009)

Brand new tape from Ham Squad (B.O.B., Playboy Tre) affiliates and Tom Breihan’s favorite mystery rap crew. They continue their 90s alt rock pillaging by rapping over over “Under The Bridge” on “That Loud” (which has been out for a minute but I am posting anyway). It’s a tacky gimmick, but these guys are talented enough to transcend it. There are a few cuts on here that have some of that B.O.B. space/post-rap bleeding through, but then they are also freestyling over “Can I Live” and “Elevators,” so take the good with the bad.

This hasn’t hit the rap blog radar yet, so stop sleeping, internet tastemakers. Download the full tape. Tracklisting after jump. (more…)

Playboy Tre – Liquor Store Mascot (Mixtape, 2009)

My internet is crawling right now and I can’t listen to this, but the great Treboy Play just dropped a new tape. Last year’s Goodbye America was damn near a classic and all signs and singles suggest that this new joint won’t disappoint. Download it now.

New Rap Music

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

I’m home sick today (differentiated from my “home healthy” days only by how guilty I feel about procrastination) and decided to post some new rap music.

Pill – “Back Outside

from 4180: The PrescriptionBlvd St.)

Playboy Tre – “Bleachers

from Liquor Store Mascot (Coming Soon)
As B.O.B. moves further into space rapping and not-rapping territory his vastly underrated homie and hypeman Playboy Tre keeps getting closer and closer to RAP RAP purism. “Bleachers” breathes off palm to the lunch table simplicity.
