361: Revolution Of The Mind

360 Degrees – “Ebony Harmony

360 Degrees – “Messenger Of Allah

360 Degrees – “Cypher

from Rated XXX EP (Soul Power, 1990)

Here’s some more Trenton raps for today. Tony D was not actually involved in this release, I don’t think, but its definitely on a similar vibe to what he was producing. Not to be confused with the Bronx bred “Pelon” crafters, Jersey’s 360 Degrees, consisting of Prophecy and Gusto, were maybe the strangest emcees to come out of the area, rocking a very unique and very bugged 5%er style on this incredibly rare EP. Check the intense multitracking on “Messenger Of Allah” or proto-ODB/Gravediggaz bug out moves on “Ebony Harmony”, literally spitting all over the mic as if every syllable is a pain to pronounce but of upmost importance. The beats, too, are very forward for 1990, “Ebony Harmony” almost sounds like some later Hiero shit.

Anyone know the story behind “Pizzaz”? It was originally a record by another Trenton act called Nice Productions but then the 360 version, as featured on the Trenton comp came out over the same beat the following year and 360 go to great lengths to tell you that theirs is the original.

Thanks for posting this, I always wondered about this record. How could Kilogram forget a 360 cameo in his video?

It wouldn’t surprise me if Tony D was somehow involved in both sides of the “Pizzazz” story. The man was untouchable. R.I.P.

Props for upping all of this classic Jersey stuff.

On a totally unrelated note, D-Lo’s mixtape finally dropped today. It’s basically what I wanted snap music to sound like when I first heard about it. REALLY dope.
