Dave Tompkins & DJ Monk One – The Bees In Your Beargut or Bonus Beach (Mixtape, 2010)

Dave Tompkins just dropped this, the companion mix to his epic vocoder memoir How To Wreck A Nice Beach, with lots of electro vocals both rapped and unrapped. If you care about robots or rap you should probably read it. If you care about both robots and rap then you have no excuse. I hate to gush but Tompkins is really one of the most inspiring writers doing this. The guy is a gift to everyone reading and writing about music.

Jake One isn’t only Seattle’s most visible producer, he’s also the scene’s biggest advocate. On this new tape he runs through a couple decades of underground Sea-Town bangers. It’s a nice cross-section of the city’s sounds and a great supplement to the Local Product feature that Jake and Mike Clark dropped here a few months back. (via).

Even if we don’t always see eye to eye as far as taste goes there is probably no blogger that I trust more than Robbie at Unkut. Dude is easily one of the last real bloggers alive. Today marks sixth anniversary of his site and they’re celebrating with this well constructed mix of new school but classically angry broken 40 bottle New York rap. Late pass, but this Oschino tape is a lot better than anyone could have expected. Some of that I just wanted some Boston Market strife from his State Property days remains, but he’s also picked up on Meek Mill’s stuffy nosed rapid fire flow. If this is the new style for Philly then the city has my full endorsement. The does tape slip up a little when he tries to make hits (Philly, in the words of your fearless leader STOP! Chill! with the club records.) Props to Emynd for the assist.
